Jordan Pickford makes telling Everton admission after Ipswich win

Jordan Pickford believesEverton are building momentum after David Moyes’ side extended their unbeaten Premier League start with a 1-0 victory over Ipswich Town.

Thierno Barry’s fifth goal of the season was enough at the Hill Dickinson on Saturday, taking the Blues to two wins and three draws from their opening five league matches.

Ipswich were reduced to ten men in the second half but made Everton work for the points, with Barry also having a header disallowed following a VAR review.

Pickford was pleased with how Everton handled a game they were expected to win.

“It was a great way to finish the week off,” he told the Liverpool Echo. “It was always going to be tough, especially when they went down to 10 men. The expectation was for us to win it and that is what we have done.”

Pickford sees Everton building momentum

Pickford’s reference to expectation was an interesting one after Everton’s encouraging opening few weeks of the season.

Moyes’ side remain unbeaten in the Premier League and have also kept five clean sheets from seven matches in all competitions. Saturday was not their most fluent performance, particularly after Ipswich went down to ten men, but they still found a way to protect their early lead.

Pickford believes there is more to come when Everton return from the international break.

“We are building momentum and we will be focused and ready to go when we come back,” he added.

Moyes was less satisfied with aspects of the performance and felt his team should have made more of their numerical advantage. Our David Moyes post-match reaction has more from the manager on Everton’s start.

Barry continues impressive Everton start

Barry’s contribution was again decisive, with James Tarkowski’s effort taking a deflection off the striker to beat Christian Walton after 11 minutes.

The forward thought he had another when his second-half header found the net, only for the goal to be disallowed after Brennan Johnson was adjudged to have interfered with Walton from an offside position.

Barry made his frustration clear but was happier to concentrate on the result afterwards.

“I’m very happy to score again today, we need to keep working like this,” he told the Liverpool Echo.

The striker also dismissed the suggestion that his productive start had brought any additional pressure.

“We need to enjoy. You need to enjoy every moment in football. No [pressure]. I just need to keep working to achieve my goals and let’s see.”

Five league games have given Pickford plenty of reason for encouragement. Everton will return from the break unbeaten, with Barry scoring regularly and their goalkeeper talking about building momentum rather than simply making a promising start.
