Erling Haaland shared a brilliant moment with Sunderland supporters after Manchester City’s 5-3 win at the Etihad
There was a brilliant moment between Erling Haaland and the Sunderland supporters following Sunday’s eight-goal thriller at the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City eventually ran out 5-3 winners against Régis Le Bris’ side, despite Brian Brobbey scoring a superb hat-trick for the Black Cats. Haaland had the final say on an extraordinary afternoon, sliding home at the back post in the 81st minute to score City’s fifth after an initial offside flag was overturned.

It was also something of a landmark goal for the Norway international. Sunderland had been the only Premier League club Haaland had faced without scoring against, having drawn a blank in both meetings between the sides last season. His strike on Sunday completed the set, with Haaland now having scored against all 25 different opponents he has faced during his Premier League career.

The Manchester City striker shared a good-natured moment with the travelling Sunderland supporters after the final whistle. As Haaland walked around the Etihad pitch, those remaining in the away end jokingly serenaded him with: “You’re just a s*** Brian Brobbey” following the Sunderland striker’s remarkable three-goal display. Rather than take offence, Haaland appeared to thoroughly enjoy the chant.
The City star smiled towards the Sunderland end, gestured for the travelling fans to sing even louder, then applauded them. The Sunderland supporters responded by applauding Haaland back, providing a classy end to what had been a hugely entertaining afternoon in Manchester.
Brobbey had certainly earned the chant after becoming the first Sunderland player to score a Premier League hat-trick in a decade, although his efforts ultimately came without any reward as City maintained their perfect start to the league campaign. Haaland, meanwhile, could finally tick Sunderland off his Premier League list after previously going 159 minutes against the Black Cats without finding the net.
