Florian Wirtz has barely settled at Liverpool, yet a shock return to Germany is now being discussed, as per the latest transfer news. Bayern Munich are linked with the playmaker again, but the story is more complex. Michael Olise could be the key name behind the fresh transfer talk.
Bayern Munich links return after Wirtz rumours
As reported by CaughtOffside, German journalist Christian Falk has discussed a possible Wirtz and Olise swap deal. Falk stressed that there is no planned move for Wirtz right now. He said Bayern e are not currently working on a shock transfer for the former Bayer Leverkusen star.
Wirtz joined the Reds in 2025 after they agreed a deal worth £116M with Leverkusen. He arrived with a big name in Germany after playing a key role in Leverkusen’s title-winning side. His first year in England, though, was not as smooth as many expected. The Premier League side have no plan to sell Wirtz to Bayern Munich anytime soon. As the report notes, the club still rely on him to improve under Andoni Iraola.
Florian Wirtz’s stats for the 2025/26 season, as per FOTMOB:
Competitions Matches Goals Assists Chances Created
Premier League 33 5 3 60
FA Cup 4 1 1 3
Champions League 11 1 3 32
Why Michael Olise is part of the story
Olise is where the transfer talk gets interesting. Falk said Bayern hope the French winger signs a new deal. His future may become a bigger topic next summer if he does not agree fresh terms. That could force the Bavarian giants to think about other attack options there. Falk suggested that Wirtz could become interesting to Bayern if Olise leaves. A swap with Liverpool was also mentioned.
Another route would be selling Olise to another major club and using that money to bid for Wirtz. For now, though, this remains a future idea, not an agreed transfer. Bayern’s interest in Wirtz has been linked with the uncertainty around Olise’s long-term position at the club.
Florian Wirtz future still looks open
he latest reports make one point clear, that Wirtz is not currently on the verge of joining Bayern Munich. Falk has rejected claims of an imminent move and says nothing is planned at this stage. At the same time, the link will probably keep returning because Wirtz has a strong history with the German champions. Bayern held talks with him before his move to Liverpool, and that old interest has never fully disappeared.
For now, the Reds have reasons to stay patient. Wirtz is still young and remains a major part of their plans. Bayern also have several attacking options, including Olise and Jamal Musiala. That makes a sudden swap unlikely for now. Still, football transfers can change fast. Olise’s contract situation, Wirtz’s form and the plans of both clubs could all shape what happens next. The talk is certainly interesting, but there is no confirmed swap deal on the table.
Author’s Opinion
The Wirtz-Olise idea sounds exciting, but it is still only a scenario. Wirtz has not had enough time to define his Liverpool story, while Olise’s future is also unclear. For now, the sensible view is to watch both situations before expecting a major move.
