Just a few months ago, there were some doubts that Patrick Mahomes would even be healthy enough to start for the Kansas City Chiefs by the second week of the season as he continued to rehab from a torn ACL that ended his 2025 season. Not only has he been able to play, but he looks like he’s back to his old self.
During Sunday night’s overtime win over the Indianapolis Colts, Mahomes put up some huge numbers, throwing for 382 yards with three touchdowns, but his advanced stats were even more impressive than that.
Mahomes’ Big Night
In just his second game back from the injury that ended his 2025 season, Mahomes had an absolutely dazzling performance, throwing for nearly 400 yards with three touchdowns to lead his team to an overtime victory.
But the raw stats don’t even tell the whole story of his dominance, as Mahomes was quite clearly the best quarterback in the league this week when you look at some of the advanced stats from Pro Football Focus.
Mahomes led all quarterbacks this week with a 94.5 grade from PFF, including a 93.1 passing grade. He had four big-time throws, which was the most of any quarterback this week, and had zero turnover-worthy plays, which was the best in the league.

‘Mahomes has returned’
Needless to say, these are some pretty insane numbers, and they led to a lot of reactions from the NFL world on social media.
“Mahomes has returned,” wrote Matt Verderame of Sports Illustrated.
“I’m shaking,” wrote prominent NFL commentator Pranav Sriraman.
“He’s back folks. Be scared,” wrote Mac Morey of Fantasy Football Sunday on 96.5 The Fan.
“With the 26th best WR group in the NFL,” someone else pointed out.
“Anti-Mahomes spreadsheet dweebs gonna HATE this… last thing they were clinging to,” another Chiefs fan pointed out.
“Feels great seeing a Mahomes game like this again,” another fan said.
We’ll have to see whether or not Mahomes can keep up this dominance throughout the NFL season.
