Mike Evans suffered a hip injury midway through Week 2’s battle against the Miami Dolphins, but it doesn’t appear to be a serious issue. Originally entering the league as a first-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Evans spent most of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and established himself as one of the game’s most consistent threats on the perimeter and in the red zone. Recording at least 1,000 yards in his first 11 seasons, Evans battled injury in 2025 and joined the San Francisco 49ers in the offseason.
While he left Sunday’s contest early with an injury, head coach Kyle Shanahan doesn’t sound too worried about his star receiver. In a recent interview, Shanahan said that he didn’t believe the injury was serious and added that Mike Evans could have returned to the game had the outcome been in question.

Mike Evans Injury Update: 49ers Star WR Not Seriously Hurt
Mike Evans is no longer the dominant player he was in the 2010s and early 2020s, but he has played pretty well for the 49ers thus far. In Week 1, the veteran finished the night with a respectable six receptions for 49 yards and a touchdown on seven targets against a strong Los Angeles Rams defense. He was off to a similar start in Week 2, recording three receptions for 54 yards before suffering the hip injury.
While he never returned to the field, head coach Kyle Shanahan made it clear that he could have if the outcome were undecided. However, this was a lopsided affair, and the team didn’t need to risk additional injury to Mike Evans.
Based on Kyle Shanahan’s comments, it’s safe to say that Mike Evans should be able to suit up for Week 3’s matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals pulled off a surprise victory against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1 but fell back to Earth against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2. The 49ers will be favored in this one and have a good shot of starting their season with a 3-0 record.
