Former Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has received a six-month driving ban after his Rolls-Royce was caught speeding.

‌

Egyptian star Salah failed to identify who was behind the wheel when the vehicle was captured on a speed camera travelling at 36mph in a 30mph zone on a stretch of road in Wilmslow, Cheshire, on March 27, according to court documents, when he was still a Liverpool player.

‌

The 34 year old, who scored a hat-trick as Trabzonspor defeated Galatasaray in a huge encounter over the weekend, did not respond to the prosecution notice, brought by Cheshire Constabulary, and failed to enter a plea to the charge.

A court official confirmed he was prosecuted at Warrington Combined Court under the Single Justice Procedure, whereby magistrates convene in private hearings, and was found guilty of failing to provide information relating to the identification of the driver of the Rolls-Royce.

The Egypt national captain was handed a six-month driving ban and ordered to pay $1400 (£1000), a court spokeswoman confirmed.

That sum comprised a $883 (£660) fine, along with $160 (£120) in court costs and a victim surcharge of $353 (£264).

The speeding offence occurred just two days after Salah confirmed he would be departing Liverpool following nine years at the club, reports the Express.

Upon announcing his exit on 24th March, the club stated he had "firmly established himself as one of the greatest players in Liverpool's history".

Salah netted 257 goals in 442 appearances for Liverpool before making the move to Turkish outfit Trabzonspor during the summer transfer window. Since his arrival, he has found the net seven times in eight appearances across all competitions, adding a further two assists to his tally.

Speaking after the win over Galatasaray, new boss Thomas Reis said: "We have teammates who are much more experienced than me as players, who have gained a lot of experience. We have players who have played at the Champions League level, at very top levels.

"Of course, they are also very valuable players. They made incredible contributions. Naturally, I am very happy to be Mohamed Salah's coach. But at the same time, our defensive players, our midfielders, everyone did a great job. They helped him a lot."

In 2022, the winger was caught driving at 62mph in a 50mph zone while behind the wheel of a Ferrari F8 Tributo in Stockport. The incident resulted in a fine and three penalty points added to his licence.

Salah was also reportedly filmed using his mobile phone while driving near Anfield in 2018, although no charges were brought after police concluded there was insufficient evidence to pursue a prosecution.
