Every AFC East team has completed two games, and the New England Patriots remain within striking distance of the division lead. The Buffalo Bills sit alone in first place at 2-0. New England and the New York Jets are tied at 1-1, while the Miami Dolphins occupy last place at 0-2.
Buffalo remains the team everyone else is chasing.
The Bills defeated the Detroit Lions 41-31 on Sunday, increasing their scoring total to 77 points through two games. Josh Allen has accounted for at least five passing touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns, a combination no other quarterback had produced through the first two games of a season, according to Buffalo Rumblings.
Patriots Route Through Two Weeks
New England’s route to 1-1 has looked much different. The Patriots opened the season with a 13-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks before responding with a 20-3 road victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mike Vrabel’s defense drove the win over Pittsburgh. New England recorded four sacks, forced multiple turnovers and scored a touchdown on Elijah Ponder’s 19-yard fumble return.
The performance allowed the Patriots to survive an uneven offensive game in which Drake Maye threw for 208 yards and one interception. New England now sits one game behind Buffalo with all four division matchups still ahead.
Jets Failed To Move To 2-0
The Jets missed an opportunity to join the Bills at 2-0 when they allowed the final 13 points in a 20-17 overtime loss to the Green Bay Packers. New York had control of the game but could not finish. The loss dropped the Jets into a tie with New England and created an early opening for the Patriots.
Dolphins In Big Trouble
Miami is already facing considerably more pressure.
The Dolphins fell to 0-2 after suffering a 35-13 blowout loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Miami has struggled to generate momentum and now sits two games behind Buffalo after only two weeks.

Patriots Controlling What They Can Control
For the Patriots, the most encouraging development is not simply their record. It is how quickly Vrabel’s defensive identity has appeared. New England held Pittsburgh to three points, 235 total yards and two third-down conversions. That type of defense gives Maye and the offense room to develop without requiring the quarterback to win a shootout every week.
Buffalo’s explosive start shows why that development cannot take too long.
The Patriots eventually will need Maye to trade scores with Allen, particularly when the teams meet head-to-head. New England cannot count on its defense to decide every game.
For now, the Patriots are firmly involved in the division race. They share the same record as the Jets, own a full-game advantage over Miami and possess a defense capable of keeping difficult games manageable.
Buffalo remains the clear favorite after two weeks. New England, however, has positioned itself as part of the chase rather than an early afterthought.
