Arsenal dealt fresh blow as defender withdraws from int'l squad today due to injury

Arsenal defender Marli Salmon has withdrawn from England’s under-18s squad today due to an injury.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has included the 17-year-old in his first-team plans this season, and his knock could be a blow for the Emirates Stadium club.

Salmon featured for the Gunners in their Carabao Cup victory over Ipswich Town last Tuesday, starting and ending the game.

He has been on the bench several times this term but could now spend time on the sidelines following the injury blow.

Salmon is not the only player to have withdrawn from international duty as Declan Rice has also left the senior England squad.

However, the Arsenal midfielder is not injured and only pulled out purely for load management reasons.

Rice could do with much-needed rest after the number of games he played last season before heading to the World Cup.

The Gunners headed into the international break on the back of a chastening 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

They were outplayed and will be desperate to return to winning ways when they resume Premier League action on October 10.

Arsenal host unbeaten Leeds United and could do with all three points as they look to successfully defend their title this season.

They will hope their players on international duty return unscathed given how injuries threatened to derail their campaign last season.

Piero Hincapie has been left out of Ecuador’s squad for the international break’s friendlies over the upcoming fortnight.

The defender was an unused substitute against Brighton having only just returned from a groin injury.

He has started just one game for Arsenal this season, the 1-0 win over Napoli in the Champions League earlier this month.

Hincapie got injured in training afterwards, missing the next two matches, and he will now use the coming days to continue his recovery.
