Manchester City are reportedly among a host of European clubs scouting River Plate goalkeeper Santiago Beltran, though the Argentine giants are expected to demand a high price for their prized young talent.

City’s goalkeeping department looks in healthy shape after a busy summer, with Gianluigi Donnarumma the undisputed first choice and Geronimo Rulli having returned to serve as his deputy.
That has not stopped the club’s recruitment staff from casting an eye towards the future, and their scouting network has again been busy in South America - a market Manchester City know as well as anyone.
The latest name to draw their attention is a 21-year-old who has enjoyed a breakthrough year in Argentina, and who is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about young goalkeepers in the world.
Man City Send Scouts to Watch Santiago Beltran
According to Argentine outlet El Intransigente, Manchester City have dispatched scouts to watch 21-year-old River Plate goalkeeper Santiago Beltrán in person, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness.
City are far from alone in their admiration, with Aston Villa, Barcelona, Benfica and Real Betis reportedly doing likewise, and Atletico Madrid and Chelsea also credited with interest in recent months.
Whether Beltrán is being eyed for a spot in the first team or as a City Football Group asset remains to be seen. The club has earned a reputation for spotting elite talent early and threading it into their wider recruitment strategy, and it's obvious how a highly-rated young goalkeeper with senior international experience slots neatly into that approach.
With Donnarumma still only 27 and Rulli offering experienced cover, there would be no immediate route to regular football at the Etihad Stadium, so any move would be one for the long term - potentially through the CFG’s global network, as the club have done with other South American prospects.

Hugo Viana has detailed the thinking behind Manchester City's summer midfield overhaul, backing Ayyoub Bouaddi, Enzo Fernandez and Elliot Anderson to help fill the void left by two departing club legends.
It's worth noting that though the report adds that Beltran has recieved “very strong financial offers” from Europe, it stops short of naming the clubs behind them, so there is nothing to suggest City themselves have gone that far.
River Plate Move to Protect Beltran with £86M clause
The wealth of European interest has not gone unnoticed in Buenos Aires, and reports suggest that River Plate are responding in kind. The club are currently working to tie Beltrán down to a new contract, extending his deal - currently due to expire in December 2027 - through to December 2029.
That renewal would supposedly see his release clause rocket from roughly €21 million (£18.2 million) to a colossal €100 million (£86.7 million).
“Santiago Beltran’s renewal is progressing very well and he won’t leave for free,” local journalist Sebastian Srur said. “The clause today is around €21 million. The idea is for him to renew.”
A jump of that magnitude would, naturally, make any deal dramatically more expensive - and could take the goalkeeper out of the reach of all but a handful of clubs.
Who is Santiago Beltrán?
Beltrán’s emergence has been one of the stories of the year over in Argentina. Handed his opportunity following injuries to both of River Plate's two more senior goalkeepers, he grabbed the chance with both hands to nail down a place as the club's number one.
Thanks to impressive form he has since won his first senior cap for Argentina, with whom he has trained alongside World Cup-winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez - and the aforementioned Rulli.
His penalty-shootout heroics have added to the buzz, with decisive contributions against San Lorenzo, plus a crucial stop away at Brazil’s Red Bull Bragantino, helping to cement his rising stock.
With River Plate determined to secure his extension, January 2027 is looking like the pivotal moment. Should he sign a new contract as anticipated, the window to sign Beltrán at a sensible price may well slam shut. City, along with their rivals, will be keeping tabs to see how it plays out.
