The majority of Week 2 in the NFL is done. Those who have lost are starting to reel, learning from the game or finding those they can blame for the mistakes that led to the loss. For the teams who added to the win column, whether it’s their first win or the second, the team spirit is riding high.

A term popularized by a segment on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Overreaction Monday is a way for fans to be able to boast and brag about the previous week’s games and players. In this week’s rendition, it’s time to talk about the Carolina Panthers.

The Carolina Panthers Collectively Shined
The Carolina Panthers destroyed the Atlanta Falcons 34-3 in an NFC South matchup. Carolina controlled the game from start to finish. After winning the coin toss, rookie Zakee Wheatley forced a fumble on the first drive, giving Carolina great field position. The game was over from there. After three interceptions, one returned for a touchdown by Devin Lloyd, and another 300-yard performance from Bryce Young, the Panthers were celebrating in the locker room.
Following the win, Dave Canales said, “Unbelievable. Just complimentary football. All phases, defense getting the turnover…generally speaking from an offensive standpoint, playing off of the field position that we were getting because of the defense’s response.”
This win was not the biggest thing to come out of this game. The Carolina Panthers have the best offense and highest-scoring offense in the league.
The Carolina Panthers Have the Highest Scoring Offense
The Panthers put up another 30 points in an NFL game with their offense humming. After the Week 1 loss, where they put up 37, Carolina put up 34 against a Falcons defense that looked lost. With that score, the Panthers’ total points scored sit at 71 while only giving up a total of 62 points.
The Panthers are back in the green when it comes to point differential.
However, the interesting tidbit is that, on average, Carolina scores 35.5 per game. This puts the Panthers firmly in the top spot for highest-scoring offense in the league, higher than Chicago, the team whose main goal is to be the best offense. If Carolina keeps this pace up, they will score a total of 603 points, putting Carolina second all-time in most points scored in an NFL Season, just behind the 2013 Denver Broncos.
So what does this all mean?

Brad Idzik and Bryce Young are in Sync
The offseason started off with the big update for the Carolina Panthers: Dave Canales was giving up play-calling duties to his protege Brad Idzik.
The first game Idzik called with the starters was a little rocky. However, the start of this regular season has shown a different light on this new-look offense. Idzik and Bryce Young seem to be on the same page. The relationship feels more like a collaborative mission rather than what it had been the last couple of years. Dave Canales has always looked for Bryce to fit within the system, being one of 11. With Idzik, it still feels that way, but instead the system is fitting around Bryce rather than putting Bryce in the system.
On their relationship, quarterback Bryce Young stated, “So since Day 1, since right when he got hired and first gave me a call from that first conversation till now, it’s been great being able to work with him. I feel like we have great chemistry and a great working relationship, so I’m excited for it to continue to grow.”
The Last Word on The Carolina Panthers
Carolina came into this game with a lot to fix on the defensive side of the ball and not much to work on when it came to offense. The defensive problems seem to have been a blip, but one game is not enough to make that call, just as it was after the week one loss; the offense picked up right where it left off.
Bryce Young looks more confident in under center, and the wide receivers are getting open more frequently, with home run plays being called at the correct time. The Panthers get another shot at putting up just as big of numbers as they travel to Cleveland to face the Browns, who are also coming off their first win of the season in upset fashion. If the Panthers offense keeps rolling that way, the historic week one might not be the only historic thing about this Carolina Panthers season.
