Everton news & talking points: Tfg sale claim, Blackburn and international break

Fresh speculation over The Friedkin Group’s ownership, talks over a behind-closed-doors friendly and nine players heading away on international duty feature in Sunday’sEverton news and talking points.

The Blues entered the international break with a 1-0 victory over Ipswich Town on Saturday and remain unbeaten after seven matches in all competitions.

Fresh TFG claim raises Everton valuation question

Broadcaster Elton Welsby claimed on Sunday that TFG have alerted prospective buyers that they would be prepared to sell Everton, although there has been no confirmation from the club or its owners that a full sale process is under way.

The Financial Times had previously reported that TFG were working with advisers to find new investors, potentially through the sale of a significant stake.

The latest claim prompted us to look at what Everton could actually be worth if TFG decide to sell.

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness believes a valuation could eventually settle somewhere between £800m and £1bn, while other estimates have placed the club’s enterprise value around £790m and its equity value closer to £400m once net debt is taken into account.

For now, Welsby’s suggestion of a complete sale remains unconfirmed.

Everton and Blackburn discuss behind-closed-doors friendly

Everton are in talks with Blackburn Rovers over arranging a behind-closed-doors game during the international break.

The proposed friendly would provide match minutes for members of David Moyes’ squad who remain at Finch Farm during the domestic pause.

No date or venue has been confirmed. Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray has revealed that Rovers have a behind-closed-doors fixture in their diary during the break, although he did not name their opponents.

Everton return to Premier League action away to Hull City on Sunday, 11 October.

Nine Everton players head away on international duty

Moyes will have a significantly reduced group at Finch Farm, with nine Everton players called up by their countries.

Jordan Pickford, Jarrad Branthwaite, Jake O’Brien, Brennan Johnson, Vitalii Mykolenko and Braiden Graham have received senior selections, while Tyler Dibling and Tyrique George are with England Under-21s and Harrison Armstrong joins England Under-20s.

Our Everton international-duty tracker will follow their fixtures and involvement throughout the break.

Hill Dickinson to turn pink for Megan Hilton campaign

The Hill Dickinson will be illuminated pink on Monday night as part of Organ Donation Week and a campaign led by Everton matchday steward David Hilton.

David’s 17-year-old daughter Megan died after suffering a sudden brain aneurysm last July. Her organs subsequently helped to save five lives.

Megan had registered her decision to become an organ donor and had also discussed her wishes with her family. David, his wife Claire and Megan’s younger sister Isabella are now encouraging other families to have the same conversation.

The Hill Dickinson will join the Royal Liver Building, Cunard Building and Wallasey Town Hall among the Liverpool landmarks illuminated pink.

Everton take unbeaten start into international break

Saturday’s 1-0 win over Ipswich ensured Moyes’ side signed off for the international break with another three points and another clean sheet.

Thierno Barry scored the only goal at the Hill Dickinson, taking his tally to five in all competitions. Everton have now won four and drawn three of their seven competitive matches this season, conceding only three goals and keeping five clean sheets.

They have nine points from five Premier League games and have also progressed through two rounds of the Carabao Cup.

The next test comes at Hull on 11 October before home and away fixtures against Chelsea and Arsenal respectively later in the month.
