Jordan Henderson was one of four Chelsea players to make their full Premier League debuts for the club on Friday night at Brentford, and John Terry gave his verdict on the veteran’s first outing.
Henderson, 36, joined Chelsea from Brentford in the summer. It comes after Henderson had moved to West London from Ajax, following an indifferent spell in Saudi Arabia with Al Ettifaq under Steven Gerrard.
His exit left Brentford fans aggrieved, with Henderson and Brentford agreeing to cancel his Bees contract a year into a two-year agreement. Henderson had been kept from making his debut due to an injury.

John Terry impressed by Jordan Henderson’s first Chelsea outing
Henderson had not made his debut for Chelsea because of the arm injury he sustained after falling over some advertising hoardings while celebrating with England fans after the World Cup win over Mexico.
But it did not stop Henderson from passing a Chelsea medical. Fast forward to Friday night, and the midfielder finally made his debut – though it resulted in an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to his former side.
On his YouTube channel, Terry was impressed by Henderson despite the loss: “Jordan Henderson making his debut in a Chelsea shirt, away to his old club, I thought he controlled the midfield fairly well.”
What Brentford fans sang towards Jordan Henderson
Given the circumstances, his first game in months, the fact it was in front of his former team’s supporters and that Chelsea were beaten, Henderson actually did well – even if he needed to be a bit further forward.
Obviously, Henderson is not Moises Caicedo. But he convinced a lot of doubting Chelsea fans, amid all of the elements against him. Brentford fans, however, were left delighted that his debut ended in defeat.
Fans sang: “Jordan, what’s the score”, at the former Liverpool and Sunderland midfielder towards the end of the game. Nevertheless, if Caicedo cannot play against Bournemouth, at least Henderson is ready.
