The Denver Broncos received encouraging news on J.K. Dobbins after the running back left Sunday’s win over the Jacksonville Jaguars with a hamstring injury.

Dobbins exited during the third quarter of Denver’s 20-13 comeback victory. He did not return to the game after experiencing the issue.

The early update is positive, though Dobbins still has to work through the week before his status against the Los Angeles Rams is determined.

J.K. Dobbins injury update

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Monday that a source said Dobbins is “good” following the hamstring issue. The Broncos are scheduled to face the Rams on Sunday Night Football in Week 3.

The update matches the optimism Denver showed after Sunday’s game. Head coach Sean Payton also indicated Monday that Dobbins’ injury was not currently viewed as a major concern.

Dobbins finished the Jaguars game with 10 carries for 36 yards before leaving. He had already been handling the bulk of Denver’s running back workload with R.J. Harvey inactive because of his own hamstring injury.

Dobbins has been an important part of Denver’s offense since joining the team. His availability will be especially important if Harvey remains limited during the week.

Rookie Jonah Coleman stepped up after Dobbins left against Jacksonville. Coleman finished with 10 carries for 39 yards and a touchdown while also catching three passes for 19 yards.

Coleman could again see an expanded role if Dobbins cannot play. Payton said the Broncos have three backs capable of handling a large workload, giving Denver options as it evaluates the group throughout the week.

For now, the J.K. Dobbins injury appears to be less serious than initially feared. However, the Broncos will still have to monitor his practice participation before making a final decision on his availability.

His activity during Wednesday through Friday practices should provide a clearer indication of whether Dobbins will be ready for Sunday Night Football against the Rams.
