The Seattle Seahawks rumors are intensifying as former third-round pick quarterback Jalen Milroe has been pitched as a trade candidate this season. Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton projects that the Washington Commanders could be interested in trading for the Seahawks’ former third-rounder to develop as Jayden Daniels’ backup. Daniels, a former first-round pick, suffered another gruesome injury in a loss against the Dallas Cowboys. Daniels isn’t out for the season, but he’s expected to miss several weeks, and the Commanders could opt to sit him for the rest of the season.
Meanwhile, Moton is right to pitch the Seahawks’ third-stringer, as veteran Marcus Mariota will be a free agent next offseason. However, Moton also compared the Seahawks’ third-rounder to Daniels as a way to suggest the Commanders should be interested:
“In the short-term, Washington will start Marcus Mariota, who turns 33 in October. Looking toward the future, the Commanders should add a young signal-caller who can also mimic Daniels’ play style,” Moton wrote.

The Right Fit
It’s unclear if the Seahawks will trade Milroe, but after veteran Drew Lock’s Week Two performance against the Arizona Cardinals, he could be gone. Lock has led this team 2-0, even after starter Sam Darnold went down in the season opener against the New England Patriots.
In short, the former third-round pick won’t be an unrestricted free agent until 2029. While Moton linked him to the Commanders, other trade destinations are expected to emerge.
Like the San Francisco 49ers’ backup Mac Jones and Chicago Bears’ Tyson Bagent, expect the former Alabama product to have a market by the NFL’s November trade deadline. The Commanders, however, will likely fire head coach Dan Quinn after the 2026 season and draft a new quarterback if Mariota is gone.
