Steelers offense
The Pittsburgh Steelers’ loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday was painful in many different ways. It was probably most painful, literally, for Aaron Rodgers compared to anybody else on the roster.
Without any support from the offensive line or his receiving corps getting open on a consistent basis, Rodgers took a lot of shots. Including some pressure from Patriots DT Cory Durden, who took a shot at Rodgers on Twitter after the game.
“Enjoy retirement my dog,” Durden wrote in a tweet, accompanied by a couple of laughing emojis and some images from the game.

It seems like there was plenty of trash-talking during Sunday’s game. Speaking afterward, Patriots S Kevin Byard III made a remark about DK Metcalf’s performance as well.
For Durden, it was a quiet game. He has two assisted tackles in each of the first two games; however, he’s not registered a solo tackle yet or anything in the form of a pass rush.
But he’s not wrong about Rodgers having a poor game. While it must be said that he doesn’t have much help, it’s also very clear that Rodgers was just not playing well. The Steelers didn’t look prepared for anything the Patriots threw at them, and although Rodgers has one of the best minds in the game, we haven’t seen that translate to success yet under Mike McCarthy.
The results have been dismal. In 120 minutes of football, the Steelers have scored one offensive touchdown and three field goals. Pat Freiermuth is the team’s leading pass-catcher with a whopping 78 yards. And neither Jaylen Warren nor Rico Dowdle have been able to run the ball consistently behind an offensive line that’s really struggling.
Rodgers clearly can’t elevate a unit with all those problems, at least not at this stage in his career. As a result, he’s catching a lot of heat. There have already been some calls for his job heading into Week 3.
The Patriots get the last laugh between these two sides for now. Byard joked about Metcalf after Sunday’s game, and Durden clearly had something to get off his chest about Rodgers. The fastest way to turn narratives like these around is to win ballgames, and the Steelers will look to get back on the right track against Cincinnati next week.
