INDIANAPOLIS (WRTV) — The Colts lost to the Chiefs in overtime on Sunday night to start the season 0-2.
WISH-TV and WRTV Colts Insider Kevin Bowen said there were things from the game that are worth celebrating, but the negatives outweigh the positives as the Colts lost their ninth straight game dating back to last season.
“It’s the longest losing streak in the NFL currently,” Bowen said. “It’s one of the longest losing streaks this franchise has had in awhile, so it’s hard to talk about the positive offensive outing that you had on the road, the chances of going kind of toe-to-toe in a boxing match against Patrick Mahomes.”
Bowen has covered the Colts for 16 years and is a radio host for 107.5 The Fan, hosting “The Fan Morning Show.”
The Colts defense allowed 523 yards, the second straight game the team has allowed over 500 yards to start the season.
“I get it’s Lamar Jackson. I get it’s Patrick Mahomes. But you’ve invested way too much on that side of the ball to be historically bad through the first couple of games,” Bowen said. “If your offense is going to have maybe Alec Pierce sidelined… you’re going to need that defense to start carrying a little bit more weight.”
The Colts will now turn their sights towards a matchup against the Houston Texans on Sunday, who are also coming into the matchup 0-2. Bowen thinks this is an extremely important game for the Colts.
“I think this is a must-win,” Bowen said. “Really, when you look at these two teams, Colts and Texans, Houston has won five straight games in this matchup, all by one score. So you say ‘Find a Way,’ this is the epitome of that. You’ve been right there with the Houston team that’s been in the playoffs each of the last three years. They’ve won a playoff game each of the last three years, and yet you’ve been sitting on the couch.”
The Colts are set to kick off against the Texans at 1 p.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday.
