DeMarcus Cousins calls out Jayson Tatum for not supporting Jaylen Brown enough image
The Boston Celtics were intent on trading Jaylen Brown in the 2026 offseason. While they tried to make a deal for Giannis Antetokounmpo, Brown was the primary asset that they were going to send to the Milwaukee Bucks. That did not materialize, as he was sent to the Philadelphia 76ers in a subsequent deal.
It seems like Brown wanted to stay in Boston and run it back with his now-former co-star Jayson Tatum. However, Tatum had a hands-off approach to the situation, as he let team president Brad Stevens do his job, so Brown was off to Philly.

For such a tight-knit duo like the two Jays to part ways like that is disappointing. That is why former All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins was disappointed with Tatum because he felt that the Celtics star could have stepped in.
Unfortunately, it might not be that easy because there are plenty of factors that went into the deal. The Celtics needed to make a decision because of the finances they could have gone into the 2026-27 season with, but it seems they have made sure to make it make more sense on the books.

For Cousins, he probably cares more about what happened between the two superstars. Now, the Celtics might have to deal with the 76ers and a motivated Brown. It will be a big deal because the Celtics seem primed to be a team that performs well, but they don't have the immense ceiling that the 76ers have.
"For Jaylen Brown to come out and say he hasn’t talked to him. That says a lot. Especially for a guy you spent 9 years with, won a championship with, went to multiple Conference championships, all of these things he mentioned, and then I’m at one of the lowest points of my career, and I don’t hear from the guy who supposedly had love for," Cousins said about Tatum and Brown while on Gil's Arena.
Cousins is disappointed in Tatum, but the Celtics superstar has shot down some of the narratives around this as well. However, Cousins will continue to show his disappointment because the NBA just lost one of its best duos. In the meantime, Tatum and Brown are rivals now, and that will be a great storyline for the NBA.
