BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. (WIS) - NBA Hall of Famer and Midlands native Alex English hosted his annual Celebrity Golf Tournament on Monday.
The event drew names from across the country, including fellow NBA Hall of Famers and WIS Sports Director Rick Henry, all hitting the green to raise money for Family Promise and the Let’s Share Foundation. Both organizations work to provide local families facing hardship with essential resources and support services.
The event was held in Blythewood. While star power helped draw a crowd, English said that the tournament’s continued success relies on grassroots support.
“The community is always welcome to all the things that we do,” English said. “Whether it’s a basketball camp for kids, whether it’s a Family Promise, whether it’s Let’s Share, we get great response from people in the community and that’s necessary. If I don’t get that type of response, we’re not able to do what we do.”
Last year’s tournament raised more than $50,000 for featured charities. The annual event has brought in more than $250,000 for local causes since it began.
