New York Giants edge rusher Brian Burns left Monday night’s 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams with an ankle injury, adding another concern to a difficult night at SoFi Stadium. Burns suffered the injury with 6:04 remaining in the fourth quarter and needed assistance leaving the field. The Giants listed him with an ankle injury after he exited.
The setback involved one of New York’s most important defenders. Burns entered the 2026 campaign after setting a career-high 16.5 sacks, 31 quarterback hits and 22 tackles for loss last season, earning second-team All-Pro honors and his third Pro Bowl selection.
ESPN’s Jordan Raanan took to X, formerly Twitter, after the game to relay John Harbaugh’s update on the pass rusher's injury.
“Brian Burns has a low ankle sprain, per John Harbaugh.”
The diagnosis provided New York with more clarity after Burns needed help off the field late in the loss. As of Monday night, the Giants had not announced a recovery timetable or determined whether he would be available for Week 3.
Burns’ injury was one of several New York dealt with against Los Angeles. Quarterback Jaxson Dart injured his left knee on the opening drive and did not return. Initial examinations pointed to an MCL sprain, and the Giants scheduled an MRI for Tuesday to determine the severity of the injury.
Wide receiver Malik Nabers also sustained a shoulder injury in the first quarter but returned during the second, while left tackle Andrew Thomas exited late with a groin injury.
The injuries compounded a night in which the Giants fell to 1-1 after opening the season with a victory over the Dallas Cowboys. New York returns home Sunday looking to bounce back in an afternoon clash vs. the Tennessee Titans at MetLife Stadium.
