After sitting out for nearly 1,000 days and ending a two-year retirement, future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald made a triumphant return to the gridiron. The legendary defensive tackle suited up for the Los Angeles Rams in their dominant 28-6 victory over the New York Giants on Monday Night Football. While football fans wondered how much juice the 35-year-old veteran had left in the tank, Donald proved that elite instincts do not simply fade with time away from the game.
The Rams eased the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year into action with a planned snap count, keeping him fresh across 32 total defensive snaps. Donald made his presence felt early on 14 run-defense snaps, recording three tackles and one tackle for loss. His biggest play came during the first half, when he stuffed a key short-yardage attempt to deny New York from reaching the end zone, forcing a field goal instead.
Even with a controlled workload, the tracking metrics behind his pass-rush reps show Donald remains an absolute nightmare for interior offensive linemen. On 18 pass-rush snaps, Next Gen Stats recorded his average get-off time at a blistering 0.75 seconds. That mark represents the third-fastest get-off time recorded by any defensive tackle in the league so far this season.

🔸32 snaps
🔸14 run saps (3 TKLs, 1 for loss)
🔸18 pass rush snaps (0.75s get off, LMFAO, third-fastest DT game this season)
🔸1 pressure (never had a game with zero pressures in NGS era, 2016-2026)

That trademark initial burst helped him generate a crucial quarterback pressure during the contest. By recording that hit on the pocket, Donald kept an unbelievable personal streak intact. He has never finished a game with zero pressures since Next Gen Stats began tracking player metrics in 2016.
For a Los Angeles defense managing early-season roster adjustments, having Donald back along the line provides an immediate spark. His final stat line might seem modest at first glance, but his performance proved he can still alter games in an instant. Aaron Donald is officially back, and opposing offensive coordinators must take notice once again.
