Liverpool eye January move to sign 'magician' as end of the road nears for star under Iraola…

Liverpool have had a strong start to the new season, but Andoni Iraola has already made a note of areas of his squad that could do with strengthening.

The club had a relatively quiet transfer window in the summer as they brought in Victor Munoz, Ronald Araujo and Bradley Barcola alongside defender Jeremy Jacquet, who initially signed back in January.

There was some talk that the club were looking at moves to bring in another forward, with Cody Gakpo linked with an exit, and the club having bids rejected for Ismaila Sarr and Yankuba Minteh. But the club hasn't had an issue with scoring goals this season, and other areas are likely to be prioritised.

The midfield is an area that has reportedly been looked at, with Lamine Camara known to be a target, with GMS understanding that Liverpool could make a move for the Monaco star after his move to Chelsea collapsed on Deadline Day.

But the defence is incredibly thin on the ground in terms of numbers and quality, and it means that Iraola is sure to be taking a look at ways that the squad can be improved at the next opportunity.

Virgil Van Dijk is 35 now and is beginning to decline, despite his obvious qualities, while Jeremy Jacquet has had an excellent start to his Anfield career alongside him. But Joe Gomez's injury problems have continued into the new season meaning centre-back is a problem, with Araujo's move from Barcelona only a season-long loan initially.

At left-back Milos Kerkez has struggled for form once again, while Kostas Tsimikas has no place in the Liverpool squad considering he spent last season struggling for regular minutes at AS Roma.

But right-back is arguably as big an issue as anything in the squad right now. Araujo has been fielded out of position to cover for the poor form that Jeremie Frimpong is showing, while Conor Bradley remains sidelined with a serious knee injury picked up at the start of the year. Now, it has emerged that the Reds are eyeing a January move to bolster the position.

Givairo Read Could Be End of Road for Frimpong

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool are eyeing a January move for Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read as they consider strengthening their squad for the second half of the season.

The youngster was a target for Man City and Bayern Munich during the summer transfer window, and has started the season in great form for the Eredivisie side, picking up five assists in seven games and being described as a 'magician' as a result.

An attacking full-back with a great eye for a pass, who is capable of playing as a wing-back and has plenty of room for potential would be direct competition for Frimpong, who signed from Bayer Leverkusen in a £30m deal just one season ago.

But the Netherlands star has struggled to assert himself in English football, with injuries and poor form an issue, and now Iraola is set to consider replacing him with a newer version.
