Moyes Sees ‘devilment’ in Everton winger Tyler Dibling

David Moyes says Tyler Dibling is beginning to show why Everton paid £35m to sign him from Southampton last summer.

Dibling impressed in the Carabao Cup win over Wolves, setting up Carlos Alcaraz’s winner and being voted man of the match. He was back on the bench against Ipswich Town on Saturday but was introduced during the second half of Everton’s 1-0 win.

Moyes sees improvement from Dibling

Asked about Dibling after the game, Moyes joked that his reaction to hearing the winger’s name has changed considerably.

“I’m smiling when you mention his name now,” he said. “Prior to that, I might have been a bit… I don’t know those emojis which go down the way. But I’ve got the opposite ones now. I’m sort of those ones which are clapping and smiley eyes and that.

“So, I think Tyler Dibling at the moment is just beginning to show us a little bit of what he’s got.”

Moyes had spoken before the Ipswich game about wanting to see more fight from Dibling after a difficult first season at Everton.

There was plenty he liked against Wolves. Dibling created the only goal and also produced a recovery run and tackle which brought a big reaction from the crowd at the Hill Dickinson. Moyes still saw room for improvement, particularly in front of goal.

“This is looking much better than what you showed us last year,” he said. “I actually thought he should have scored one of them. I think the one he bent in, I thought it was not a regulation save for the goalie, but saveable.

“But suddenly we’re beginning to see somebody who’s got a bit more devilment in him, beginning to look as if he’s getting closer to it. So let’s hope that can continue.”

Dibling has had to be patient since joining Everton, but the last couple of games have offered more encouragement. More importantly, Moyes appears to be seeing what he wanted from him.
