Jamie Carragher has raised the possibility of Liverpool eventually entering the race for long-term Chelsea target Alex Scott.
The former Liverpool defender described the Bournemouth midfielder as a “wonderful player” while discussing the 23-year-old following Liverpool’s meeting with the Cherries.
Carragher’s comments do not represent confirmation that Liverpool are preparing an approach.
However, they add another potential complication to a transfer situation Chelsea have already spent considerable time exploring.
Carragher raises Alex Scott Liverpool possibility
Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher praised Scott before questioning whether Andoni Iraola’s previous relationship with Bournemouth could eventually lead to players following him to Anfield.
Carragher said:
“I think he’s a wonderful player.”
He then referenced the substantial interest Scott attracted during the summer and suggested Iraola’s presence at Liverpool naturally creates questions over whether links with some of his former Bournemouth players could emerge.
There is currently no indication that Liverpool have submitted a bid or opened negotiations for Scott.
That distinction matters.
Carragher was discussing a possible future transfer rather than reporting an active Liverpool pursuit.
Chelsea already tested Bournemouth over Scott
Chelsea’s interest is far more concrete.
Bournemouth rejected a £64million offer from Chelsea in July, with the Cherries making clear that they did not want to sell one of their most important midfielders.
BBC Sport reported the rejected Chelsea bid and confirmed Scott had also turned down a new Bournemouth contract.
Chelsea subsequently continued exploring a possible deal.

However, Bournemouth hardened their position towards the end of the summer.
Club officials publicly ruled out a late departure and Scott ultimately remained at the Vitality Stadium.
Scott contract situation remains significant
Scott’s decision not to extend his Bournemouth contract remains the most important long-term factor.
Sky Sports reported that the midfielder rejected new terms after discussions which began towards the end of last season.
His existing deal runs until 2028.
That means Bournemouth remain in a strong negotiating position and do not face immediate pressure to sell.
However, the situation becomes progressively more significant if Scott continues to resist an extension.
Chelsea are also far from his only admirers.
Arsenal and Manchester United were among the clubs linked during the summer, while Liverpool have previously been credited with monitoring Scott.
Why Chelsea continue to admire Alex Scott
Scott fits many of the characteristics Chelsea have targeted under their current recruitment model.
He already has extensive Premier League experience but remains young enough to develop considerably further.
His ability to receive possession under pressure, carry the ball through midfield and operate across several central roles would provide Xabi Alonso with additional tactical flexibility.
Chelsea’s current midfield options include Moisés Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and several players capable of operating higher up the pitch.
Scott would offer a different progressive profile.
His situation became particularly relevant during the summer while Chelsea considered how to reshape the midfield following Enzo Fernández’s departure.
What happens next with Alex Scott?
No fresh Chelsea bid has been reported since the summer window closed.
There is also no evidence at present that Liverpool have formally entered negotiations.
The position is therefore very different from July, when Chelsea were actively testing Bournemouth’s resolve.
For now, Scott remains a Bournemouth player and an important part of their plans.
The next major development to watch is his contract situation.
If no agreement on new terms is reached, Chelsea, Liverpool and the other clubs previously linked with Scott could revisit the situation in a future transfer window.
Carragher’s comments do not change the transfer picture on their own.
