Chelsea felt, according to sources, that the club clearly improved their squad over the summer transfer window with a whole host of first-team players assembled for Xabi Alonso's debut season.
Stamford Bridge insiders described the window as 'phase one' under Alonso and there is a feeling within the club that it was, overall, a success.
The majority of the new signings have helped Chelsea in the early exchanges of the season as we head into the first international break of the campaign. Marco Palestra and Emmanuel Emegha, however, are yet to feature for the Blues due to respective injury problems.

In total, Chelsea spent just more than £232million on new signings that came straight into the first-team squad.
With that being said, our writers Bobby Vincent and Jake Stokes discuss how Chelsea's latest batch of signings have fared thus far, and have even given them a rating out of 10.
Disclaimer: Palestra and Emegha have not been included as they haven't yet made their debuts.
Emi Martinez
Bobby: It's been a really disappointing start for Martinez. Many felt bringing a goalkeeper who was/is experienced at the top level would be crucial for Chelsea - and it still might prove to be just that. However, the Argentine has struggled in his early days as a Blues player.
An important piece of context: the Chelsea defence and midfield have made life particularly difficult for the 34-year-old shot-stopper. I do think Martinez will improve but so far, not so good.
Bobby's rating: 5
Jake: Although Chelsea have conceded a lot of goals this season, more than any other team in the Premier League, Martinez isn't entirely to blame. The 34-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge like an angel sent from heaven to, without explanation, suddenly plug a leaky backline.

Despite not having played on the opening weekend of the new campaign, Martinez has already made the joint second-most saves in the English top flight so far this term. The Argentina international has also faced the joint-most shots on target.
For comparison, from the goalkeepers who have played at least four times in the Premier League this season, David Raya has made the second-fewest number of saves and faced the fewest shots on target.
Martinez was signed to stop Chelsea from dropping points, taking Alonso's side to the next level… not save the Titanic!
Jake's rating: 6
Maxence Lacroix
Bobby: A really promising start but equally much more to come from Lacroix. In the first few matches of the season, despite Chelsea's defensive unit not performing so well, the France international was very impressive. In the last few games, he has dropped off a bit but overall, I think this will prove to be a really shrewd piece of business at £52m.
Bobby's rating: 7

Jake: Lacroix has been a refreshing addition to the Chelsea backline, despite the number of goals conceded. For a team without European football and in need of a new centre-half, the Blues couldn't have done much better from a recruitment point of view.
Jake's rating: 7
Pep Chavarria
Bobby: The more I see of Chavarria, the more impressed I am. High energy, immense speed and better defensively than you might think. It will be interesting to see if the Spaniard is given more of an opportunity once the international break is over, especially with Palestra, who can play on both sides, due back in the squad.
Bobby's rating: 7
Jake: Chavarria has been a pleasantly surprising addition to the Chelsea squad. If the Blues defender can ask more questions of the opposition in the final third, Alonso could have a gem on his hands.

Jake's rating: 7
Valentin Barco
Bobby: A lot better than I thought he would be. Passing-wise, he is excellent. Physically, too, he seems to have adapted to life in England well. Need to see more but encouraging signs.
Bobby's rating: 6
Jake: At only 5ft 7in, many expected Barco to struggle with the physicality of the Premier League, but he's come out swinging. The Chelsea midfielder hasn't been afraid to throw his weight around, diving into tackles at every opportunity.

It also helps that he's comfortable under pressure in possession and has an eye for a pass. Alonso seemed reluctant to play him in the early stages of the season… he won’t be now.
Jake's rating: 6
Jordan Henderson
Bobby: We've not seen an awful lot of Henderson, so it's hard to rate his short time particularly highly. What we did see at Brentford, though, was an impressive display despite the second-half blitz from the home side. From someone who was at the Gtech Community Stadium on Friday evening, believe me when I tell you that his voice on the pitch reverberates around the ground.
Bobby's rating: 5
Jake: Through no fault of his own, Henderson was thrown into the deep end on Friday night. To keep his head above the water at such short notice after so long on the sidelines, the Chelsea midfielder did well.

But Henderson wasn't signed to play must-win Premier League games. The 36-year-old was signed to steer Chelsea through the final minutes of must-win Premier League games and help Alonso guide the young players through difficult moments behind the scenes.

Morgan Rogers
Bobby: You could make a really strong argument that Rogers has been the signing of the summer so far in the Premier League. People will point towards the £117m paid for him but the fact his price tag doesn't seem to come up as much as it did when the deal was announced perhaps tells you how well he has settled in at Stamford Bridge.
There feels like another gear that Rogers can move into, also, which is the scary thing. Exciting for Chelsea supporters.

Jake: Rogers has been an excellent addition to the Chelsea starting line-up. Unfortunately, a handful of his performances have been overshadowed by disappointing results.
Jake's rating: 8
Geovany Quenda
Bobby: I think deep down, Quenda will be really frustrated with the lack of game time he has played thus far at Chelsea. The 19-year-old has accumulated less than half an hour in his two Premier League appearances so far. It's hard for him to start given the form of Rogers, but Quenda should be given more of a role from the substitutes' bench.
Bobby's rating: 4

Jake: Quenda was an excellent signing, but he doesn't appear to have earned a role under Alonso yet. The Chelsea winger could very quickly become a key player, but he just needs the opportunity to do so after the international break.

Danny Welbeck
Bobby: One thing that is undeniable is that Welbeck has done what he came to Stamford Bridge to do. He wasn't brought to the club to start Premier League games. The 35-year-old striker was signed to be a back-up to Joao Pedro, and so far, he has backed the Brazilian up really well, with three goals in the Carabao Cup.

Jake: Welbeck has been a very good addition to the Chelsea squad. The Blues striker will have a huge role to play over the next month or so as Alonso looks to carefully manage Joao Pedro.
