Manchester City were reportedly among a host of clubs to send scouts to Porto's 3-1 victory over Benfica, a fixture featuring several of the most coveted young talents in European football.
Manchester City signed Jeremy Monga from Leicester City this summer and loaned the teenager to Swansea City for the 2026/27 campaign.

As with any top club, recruitment at City is an all-year-round operation, with the club's scouts a familiar sight at grounds across the continent as they keep tabs on emerging talent.
Portuguese football, in particular, has long proved fertile ground for the Blues, who have plucked the likes of Ruben Dias and Ederson from Benfica in years gone by. Bernardo Silva, Joao Cancelo, Matheus Nunes and Nico Gonzalez are also on the list of City stars to have featured in Portugal's top-flight before their moves to Manchester.
It was little surprise, then, to see representatives from the Etihad Stadium in the stands for one of the early heavyweight clashes of the Portuguese season.
Manchester City Among the Clubs That Watched Porto Beat Benfica
According to Scouts in Attendance on X, Manchester City had scouts present for Porto's 3-1 win over Benfica, joining a notable list of watchers that also featured Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Tottenham, Atletico Madrid and AS Roma.
The account did not specify which player, if any, had drawn City's interest, and it is worth stressing that a scouting presence at such a high-profile fixture is far from unusual - clubs routinely send watchers to marquee games without a single target in mind.
Even so, the sheer number of elite sides represented speaks to the quality on show, with Porto in particular boasting a crop of highly-rated young players attracting attention from across the game.
For a club that prides itself on identifying talent early, and one with a proven track record of doing business in Portugal, it is exactly the kind of occasion City would want eyes on.
The Talents Who Caught the Eye
Two of those prospects made their mark on the scoresheet. Victor Froholdt, the young Denmark midfielder previously linked with Tottenham, was on target, as was Gabri Veiga, the Spaniard who was reportedly a coveted target for clubs including City before his move to the Saudi Pro League in August 2023.
Another name generating plenty of buzz is winger William Gomes, who has recently been linked with Newcastle, Atletico Madrid and Roma. While the report did not connect City to the Brazilian, his emergence forms part of the wider pool of Porto talent now firmly on the radar of Europe's biggest clubs.
Which - if any - of the players on show truly register on City's shortlist is impossible to say from the report alone. Regardless, the club clearly continues to cast a wide net in a market they know as well as anyone, and evenings like this serve as a reminder of how closely the Blues track the next wave of talent emerging in Portugal.
