Hull City star Mo Belloumi has rebuffed claims reportedly made by his father in the Algerian media, suggesting his son deserves to be playing for one of Europe's elite clubs.
In an exclusive interview with WinWin, a leading Arabic media platform, legendary former Algerian ace Lakhdar Belloumi hinted that while currently happy with the Tigers, who have started the new Premier League season in fine style with the winger at the heart of it, he felt his talented son could turn out for the likes of Barcelona, PSG, Real Madrid, and others.
"His current focus is entirely on Hull City, and if we receive any big offer, we will not object to his departure, with all due respect to Hull City, but at this level, he deserves to play for a bigger team that fights for local and continental titles, such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Marseille, and Manchester City," one quote read in an extensive interview.

Belloumi, though, has poured cold water on those claims attributed to his father, which were cited as coming from an exclusive interview with the Algerian legend.
"Following circulating remarks attributed to Mr Lakhdar Belloumi, father of my client, Algeria international Bachir Belloumi, I wish to clarify to the sporting public that those remarks are unfounded and were not made by him in that form," the 24-year-old said through his management agency on social media.
"What one website published and attributed to Algerian football legend Lakhdar Belloumi is entirely untrue. I confirm that my client has full respect and appreciation for his current club, Hull City, and that he is fully focused on his football career and on giving his very best. We call on the media and sports pages to check their sources carefully before pubishing or attributing any statements."
Belloumi has caught the eye in the opening weeks of the new campaign, scoring twice in the thrilling 2-2 draw at Chelsea, and picking up an assist for Mohamed-Ali Cho's terrific strike in the 2-1 defeat at Newcastle United on Saturday.
Owing to his impressive form for Sergej Jakirovic's Tigers, Belloumi was called up to the Algerian squad for AFCON qualifiers against Zambia and Burundi over the next week, before they host Niger in a friendly early next month, and he will hope to make his first senior appearance for his country.
After recovering from an ACL injury in November 2024 and a couple of hamstring issues last term, Belloumi scored a stunning goal to help City win in the play-off semi-final at Millwall on their way to promotion. As a reward for his form in the early weeks of the new campaign, Belloumi was offered a new and improved deal at the MKM Stadium earlier this month, keeping him in East Yorkshire until the end of the 2028/29 campaign.
