Liverpool summer signing makes English football history

Liverpool Women have made an encouraging start to the 2026-27 Barclays Women’s Super League campaign, their fourth consecutive season in the top flight with one summer arrival already leaving a mark that no player in the division’s history has managed before.

Gareth Taylor’s side opened their WSL account with a trip to newly promoted Charlton Athletic at The Valley on September 6.

The Reds came away with a commanding 4-0 victory, sending an early message of intent after a difficult 2025-26 campaign that saw them finish 11th in the league.

A week later, Liverpool hosted Tottenham Hotspur at St Helens Stadium and had to settle for a 1-1 draw after twice threatening to take the win.

Then came a trip to Manchester City on the following Friday, where the reigning champions ran out 4-2 winners.

Three games in. One win, one draw, one defeat. But within those results, a piece of Barclays Women’s Super League history was being quietly written.

According to Opta, German forward Vivien Endemann is the only player ever to both score and assist in two of their first three WSL appearances.

She did it on her debut in the 4-0 win at Charlton, and she did it again in the 4-2 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Campus on Friday.

Endemann joined Liverpool on July 1 after three seasons at VfL Wolfsburg, arriving on a free transfer following the expiry of her contract. The 25-year-old forward, born in Lohne, Germany, wears the number nine shirt for the Reds.

She had been capped 17 times by Germany at senior level before joining Liverpool and won a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Her goals tally for Wolfsburg ran into the thirties, several of which came in the Women’s Champions League and she was part of the team that lifted the German Cup in 2023-24.

Vivien Endemann contributed six goals and two assists for Wolfsburg in the 2024-25 season, then added five goals and four assists across all competitions the following year, all without being a guaranteed starter for the full 90 minutes.

Her qualities also carry weight internationally. Since earning her first senior Germany cap in 2024, she has scored four goals in 21 appearances, including in World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Norway earlier in 2026.

1 + 1 – Liverpool’s Vivien Endemann became the first player in @BarclaysWSL history to score and assist in two of her first three appearances.
