Andy Robertson says it was "strange" to come back to Anfield so soon after leaving Liverpool, with the Scotland captain returning earlier this month to play for Tottenham in the Carabao Cup.

‌

Coming off the bench in the second half, Robertson was given a big reception as he entered the field. Liverpool won the game 3-1 with Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai among the scorers.

‌

"Yeah, it was strange," Robertson said on the Stick To Football podcast, which is available to watch now on Disney+. "Obviously, I'd looked at the fixtures when they first came out. You look at Liverpool away (in the Premier League), and it was December.

"I'm thinking, 'I'm quite happy with that. I can get my feet under the table with Tottenham.'

"And then the cup competition. We beat Charlton at home, and everyone's running around the changing room going, 'You're going back!' I'm like, 'Ahhhhh' (lifts his head up in despair).

"But no, it was great, in terms of the reception I got from the home fans. It was a long time there, and to go back and to be in another color and still get that reception, it was nice. It was nice."

A Liverpool legend, Robertson was also backed to return to Merseyside in a more permanent capacity by his former Scotland teammate, Alan Hutton, recently.

"Could we see Andy return to Liverpool as manager someday or take the Scotland or Celtic jobs? I think he can go on and do that if he wants to," the former Spurs and Aston Villa right-back said.

"He has always been a student of the game for as long as I've known him. I was just doing what I needed to do before leaving for the day, whereas he would be there, in training, asking questions constantly.

"He wanted to know why we were doing this a certain way, what were the reasons for setting up the team how we were for the next game, why do we want to do that.

"And anybody that's like that, inquisitive about the game to that level, with their team and with themselves, is on that path to becoming a manager eventually.

"He's got all the attributes to take on a job like that after he finishes and builds up his coaching career."

Robertson chose Spurs despite having lots of other options. It hasn't gone that well yet and he made an error at the weekend as Tottenham lost to Aston Villa.

So far, Roberto De Zerbi's side has collected just two Premier League points. It returns from the international break with a game against Manchester United.
