REPORT: Liverpool Weigh Up January Raid For Frimpong Replacement Who Has 5 Assists This Season

Liverpool are closely “monitoring” the performances of Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read, according to reports.

TEAMtalk claim that the Dutchman, who has contributed 5 assists already this campaign, is a potential January target as the Reds look to strengthen a problem position.

Conor Bradley still has a long way to go in his recovery from a serious knee injury he sustained against Arsenal back in January.

Jeremie Frimpong has struggled to fill the void with a series of poor performances, forcing head coach Andoni Iraola to use centre-half Ronald Araujo out of position.

Read has other Premier League suitors

It is believed that both Manchester City and Arsenal have shown interest in the 20-year-old. The Gunners have, though, signed Ezri Konsa, who can fill in at right-back if neither Jurrien Timber nor Ben White are available.

For that reason, City would likely pose the biggest threat to Liverpool. Enzo Maresca’s side have persisted with Matheus Nunes in that role, despite the Portuguese international ostensibly being a midfielder. They are likely scouring the market for a natural right-back, and Read has been on their radar for at least twelve months.

What would happen to Araujo if Liverpool sign a new fullback?

Fans have been impressed with the Uruguayan since he arrived on loan from Barcelona last month, but if Read is signed in the New Year, his game time would be limited.

The Reds do have the option to sign Araujo at the end of the season for €55m (£47m), but he would have to play out of his skin for the Merseysiders to even consider paying that much for him.

If captain Virgil van Dijk does leave when his contract expires in June, there would be space alongside Jeremy Jacquet in the middle of defence, but you do wonder whether Araujo has the ability to be the Dutchman’s replacement.
