The latest transfer talk from Newcastle United as the Magpies prepare for the January transfer window.
Newcastle United have already started planning for the January transfer window after what was a summer of change on and off the pitch at St James’ Park.
A new-look Magpies squad was pieced together after the likes of Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes all left the club throughout the close-season and there was a major change in the dugout as Matthias Jaissle was named as Eddie Howe’s successor.
The squad Jaissle inherited from Howe was given a major injection of highly-rated youngsters as United swooped to add Reims goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen, Ajax midfielder Sean Steur, Hoffenheim winger Bazoumana Traore and Monaco’s Aladji Bamba to their ranks. The hard work continued with the captures of Braga goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek and Benfica full-back Amar Dedic before big-money deals brought Manchester City midfielder Nico Gonzalez and Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo to Tyneside.

After making a solid start to the season, United are working hard to identify more potential signings to boost Jaissle’s chances of experiencing a successful start to life as Magpies boss. Recruitment staff from the club have taken in games across Europe in recent weeks - and reports in the Portuguese media have claimed Newcastle were represented in the stands at Porto’s 3-1 win against arch-rivals Benfica on Sunday evening.
Goals from Hwang In-beom, Gabriel Veiga and Victor Froholdt made the difference for Francesco Farioli’s side as they claimed all three points at the Estadio do Dragao and moved five points clear at the top of the table. The Magpies have already completed two deals with Portuguese clubs this year - and the print version of national newspaper A Bola have suggested they are still keeping an eye on the Primeira Liga.
The Magpies have been linked with moves for Porto winger William Gomes and striker Samu Aghehowa and midfielder Froholdt over the last 12 months - and the latter was under consideration to replace Bruno Guimaraes when the former United captain joined Arsenal this summer. Striker Samu, who has four caps for Spain, has also been suggested as a big money target for Newcastle - although Sunday’s appearance as a substitute marked his comeback from an ACL injury.
