Arsenal returned to the top of English football, winning the 2025/26 Premier League, their first title triumph in 22 years. They began the 2026/27 season in similar dominant fashion, before a humbling 3-0 defeat against Brighton, ahead of the extended international break. Despite that defeat, the importance of Mikel Arteta cannot be overstated, and the club have now secured their manager to a new contract.

The Gunners Secure Arteta’s Future
Arteta has been in charge of the Gunners since December 2019. He won the FA Cup in his first season, replacing Unai Emery, leaving his role as assistant manager to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. Arteta has proven himself to be the right man, delivering the club’s first Premier League title in over 20 years, and leading them to the final of the Champions League, only losing to Paris Saint-Germain in a penalty shootout.

After last season’s Premier League triumph, co-chairman Josh Kroenke made it clear that keeping Arteta at the club was an “utmost priority.”
Arteta has always seemed positive regarding his future and a new contract, with his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2027, which would have concluded the last extension he agreed in 2024. However, as reported by David Ornstein at The Athletic, Arsenal have secured Arteta’s future, with his backroom staff also in the process of renewing their deals.

Mikel Arteta has built Arsenal back from a club in disarray to the number one team in England. This position as the best club in England doesn’t look to be in serious danger this season, despite the defeat to Brighton. It looked more like a bad day at the office as opposed to the start of the dominoes falling.
