The Arizona Cardinals didn't put up much of a fight in Week 2, as they fell 31-7 to the Seattle Seahawks. To make matters worse, it appears Will Johnson may have suffered a season-ending injury during the contest, pending more test results. He shared a post on social media opening up about his situation.
Johnson posted a verse from the Bible on his Instagram account. He then followed it up with a heartfelt message of his own. The 23-year-old admits he will miss playing alongside his teammates this season, and that he appreciates the support he has received from his loved ones and fans alike.
“‘For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future,' Jeremiah 29:11 NIV,” Johnson wrote.
“This one hurts. The countless hours getting ready, the bond built with my brothers, and what we have on that defense can be special. I appreciate all the support and prayers through these times,” Johnson continued. “I know it won't be easy, but I know God has a great plan and I will attack this to come back better for myself and Cardinals nation.”
The second-year pro sustained the neck injury while attempting to make a tackle in the fourth quarter against the Seahawks on Sunday. Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur informed media members on Monday that Johnson's injury is likely season-ending. Will Johnson ended the Week 2 matchup with four tackles.
Arizona will have to switch things up in the secondary moving forward. Kei'Trel Clark should have a chance to step in as the starter opposite Denzel Burke. However, Jordan Burch could also earn additional playing time with Johnson out of the picture.
