Florian Wirtz’s future at Liverpool has recently become a huge talking point with reports suggesting that the 23-year-old German midfielder could be open to a move to Bayern Munich if the opportunity arises. The latest Liverpool transfer news suggests that Florian Wirtz could be moving back to Bundesliga. He has been struggling with English football and is now considering moving back to Bundesliga.
Florian Wirtz Has Struggled to Replicate His Bundesliga Form
Wirtz had arrived at Anfield following a brilliant spell at Bayern Leverkusen. Liverpool had acquired him for a reported package of £116 million. However, he has struggled to adapt to English football. As reported by Football Insider, Wirtz has struggled with the physicality and speed of the Premier League. His performance has generally been better at European tournaments.
The midfielder’s first season with the Reds saw him produced 15 goal contributions in 49 appearances. His early performances in the 2026/27 campaign have also failed to silence the criticism surrounding him. He produced 0 goals and 1 assist in 5 matches played so far in the Premier League and 1 game in the UEFA Champions League.

Bayern Munich Remain Interested
Bayern Munich’s interest in Wirtz is not new. The German club were also trying to sign Florian Wirtz, but Liverpool managed to sign him first. They are however, still interested in him and might be willing to test Liverpool’s resolve with an offer. However, Cristian Falk of CF Bayern said that Bayern has no move planned for Wirtz, but he did acknowledge that it would be the natural destination for Wirtz in a move back to German football.
Liverpool Not Yet Ready to Give Up on Florian Wirtz
Despite the speculation, Liverpool do not appear to have made a decision to sell Wirtz with Andoni Iraola continuing to use the midfielder in his starting lineup and is reportedly trying to figure out the best position to play him in which can bring out his best qualities.
Football Insider had previously reported that Andoni does not want Wirtz to leave Liverpool as he believes that the midfielder is an integral part of Liverpool’s plans. Liverpool are therefore faced with a difficult situation. They invested heavily in Wirtz and wanted to give him sufficient time to adapt before considering such a significant decision.
January Exit Unlikely Despite Transfer Interest
Reports of a potential January transfer have intensified, but a mid-season departure remains far from certain. Liverpool could receive offers for Wirtz during the January window but have no plans to actively sell him. Bayern Munich could make an approach, although Liverpool transfer news suggests that they would be expected to resist an immediate move.
The upcoming months are therefore very important. If Wirtz can rediscover his past form, then the transfer rumours could go away. However, if the poor form continues then the transfer rumours could become bigger.
Author’s Opinion
For Wirtz, a move to Bayern would represent a return to the league where he established himself as an elite young talent. He is having difficulties adapting to English football and a move back to Bundesliga might help him with his form.
