The MRI on New York Giants’ quarterback **Jaxson Dart’s** left knee revealed an injury more severe than was believed on Monday night, **[per NFL insiders Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport](https://x.com/MikeGarafolo/status/2102467224737079699)**. Dart could miss the remainder of the 2026 season.
Dart was injured on the Giants’ first drive of the game Monday night. While throwing a pass to tight end Theo Johnson, Dart was sandwiched between Los Angeles Rams’ defenders Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart, with his left knee inverting awkwardly.
Dart limped off the field under his own power, and was on the sideline in street clothes during the second half of the 28-6 loss to the Rams. The injury was initially believed to be a sprained MCL.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that **[Dart could be facing surgery](https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/2102467323315560526)**, and said that “Of all the QB injuries suffered in Week 2, Dart’s is turning out to easily be the most significant.”
The Giants were looking like a potential playoff contender after Dart completed 23 of 29 for 230 yards and 3 touchdowns while also running 11 times for 54 yards in a season-opening 28-20 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Now, the Giants are looking at having **Jameis Winston** at quarterback for the remainder of the season.
