Jaxson Dart could miss the remainder of the 2026 NFL season as he and the New York Giants are facing the possibility of season-ending knee surgery.
Dart exited the 28-6 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football after taking a brutal hit to the leg, which forced ESPN to halt its coverage. Jameis Winston replaced him, and the Giants struggled on offense, with head coach John Harbaugh eager to see if Dart was able to check back into the game.
Despite trying to convince the medical staff otherwise, Dart was denied reentry to the field because his injury was deemed too risky. Upon further testing, the Giants and Dart are now preparing for the worst this season, as surgery would end his campaign.
Dart was seen clutching his knee on the Giants' first offensive drive of Monday's game, and trainers jogged onto the field to tend to the young quarterback. ESPN then immediately cut to a commercial break and didn't instantly show a replay.
The Giants were facing a third-and-eight scenario against the Rams, and when Dart dropped back and found tight end Theo Johnson, he was sandwiched by two players. Linebacker Byron Young slammed his midsection and sent him crashing into fellow pass rusher Josaiah Stewart, causing his left leg to bend.
Dart spent considerable time in the blue medical tent, and on the Giants' next drive, Winston led the offense. Dart reportedly fought to be reinstated in the game, but his request was blocked.
The 23-year-old was later seen in plain clothes on the sidelines, and the Rams eased to victory while Winston and the offense struggled. Dart starred for the Giants in Week 1, but the organization may once again be preparing for another disrupted season.
The Giants stunned the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1, beating their NFC East rivals 28-20. Dart completed 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards and two touchdowns
