NFL Sees Starting Quarterback Ruled Out For The Foreseeable Future
What initially looked like a manageable knee injury has now become something far more serious. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that further testing revealed Jaxson Dart’s injury is worse than first believed, and that season-ending surgery is now a possibility.
Dart was initially believed to be dealing with an MCL sprain after getting hurt on New York‘s opening drive against the Rams. He was able to walk off the field under his own power, and there was even some optimism early on that he had avoided a major injury. That optimism has clearly faded after the latest testing.
If Dart does end up needing surgery, the Giants could be without their starting quarterback for the majority, if not all, of the 2026 NFL season. That’s a huge blow for a young offense who had just come off an impressive Week 1 win over Dallas.

The Giants now have to prepare for life without Dart, at least for the foreseeable future. Jameis Winston struggled after taking over Monday night, completing 11 of 27 passes for 111 yards and an interception in New York’s 28-6 loss to Matthew Stafford and company.
For now, the Giants are still waiting on the final word regarding Dart’s treatment and recovery timeline. But after Monday night’s injury initially appeared to be something the team might be able to work through, the latest update has turned it into a potentially season-altering situation for both Dart and New York.
