Houston Rockets star big man Alperen Sengun has set some massive goals ahead of the upcoming NBA season.
During Rockets Media Day, Sengun spoke about both his own expectations and those surrounding the team, while making it clear that his personal ambitions remain extremely high.
Sengun said that while expectations continue to grow every season, his ultimate goal is to become the best player in the NBA one day.
"Every year is different expectations, they just get bigger and bigger. I want to be the best player in this league one day," Sengun said.
"It's good to be having those expectations. It just makes me a better player, it's making me a better person."
Sengun comes off another All-Star season
Sengun has made the All-Star Game in each of the last two seasons, but despite his individual success, the Rockets have failed to advance past the first round of the playoffs in both campaigns.
Last season, the Rockets star averaged 20.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game. Alongside Kevin Durant, he helped Houston finish fifth in the Western Conference with a 52-30 record.
However, the Rockets were unable to take advantage of a depleted Los Angeles Lakers team playing without Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, losing the first-round series in six games.
The upcoming campaign will be Sengun's sixth season in the NBA.
He remains under contract with the Rockets for the next four seasons after signing a five-year, $185 million extension in 2024.
