HB Koge's Kyra Carusa controls the ball under pressure from Steph Catley of Arsenal

**Arsenal 1-0 HB Koge**

An injury-time penalty secured Arsenal a 1-0 win over Kyra Carusa's HB Koge in the opening round of the Women’s Champions League at Meadow Park.

The Republic of Ireland player led the line for the Danish underdogs whose gameplan looked effective for 93 minutes before a late mistake from defender Yukina Sakabe gifted the hosts a penalty which Mariona Caldentey squeezed home.

Goalkeeper Alberte Vingum got a hand to it, but not enough to prevent it from finding the back of the net as the Gunners got out of jail.

Carusa, who joined the club for a second stint earlier this year in a free transfer from NWSL outfit San Diego Wave, had little service as the game progressed with Arsenal dominating possession.

In the 17th minute she latched onto a ball down the right as Koge countered, but her cross was cleared.

On the half hour mark she had a crack from distance, but it was easily gathered by goalkeeper Anneke Borba, with Carusa spurning the opportunity to play others in.

After the break she was reduced to predominantly as defensive shift as Arsenal piled on the pressure, making it finally tell in time added on.

Elsewhere, **Manchester City's** eventful return to the competition saw them come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 away to **Bayern Munich** and become the first English side to avoid defeat to the Germans in Europe.

City's Germany international Carlotta Wamser was left completely unmarked in the penalty area to score her first City goal in the 86th minute after prolific striker Khadija Shaw had earlier missed a penalty to equalise.

Bayern were 2-0 up inside the first half-hour and had chances to put the result beyond doubt but with seconds ticking down to the interval Kerstin Casparij's break down the right led to Beth Mead eventually tapping in.

However, the hosts were unhappy play had been allowed to continue as a smoke cannister had been thrown onto the pitch down the side of that attack but as Casparij had crossed before she reached the thick blue cloud the goal was allowed to stand.

A smoke cannister caused drama in Man City's draw against Bayern

That was the stroke of luck City needed and they benefited again when Ena Mahmutovic appeared to be caught in two minds as she came out to close down Aoba Fujino.

She appeared to opt to try to let the ball run out of play before inexplicably then sticking out a leg to bring down the City winger.

Shaw, who was due to be substituted, could not take advantage and was immediately replaced but Wamser ensured the miss was not costly.

**Paris St Germain** came from behind to clinch a 1-1 draw at **Real Madrid**.

Felicia Schroder gave the Spanish club the lead after just 96 seconds to make it six goals in five appearances since her June transfer from BK Hacken.

But Sakina Karchaoui was on target from the spot with 16 minutes left to secure a point.

Marit Bratberg Lund scored twice – once from the spot – as **Benfica** dispatched **Juventus** 2-1 at Allianz Stadium. Alba Redondo grabbed a late consolation for Juventus.

Malta striker Haley Bugeja settled a hard-fought opener for **Inter Milan** with a fifth-minute winner that condemned Swedish side **Hacken** to a 1-0 defeat at U-Power Stadium.

Hacken keeper Jennifer Falk was sent off in the 90th minute for a trip as Inter staged a late attack.
