It is only two weeks into the 2026 NFL season, and some fans are already calling for their favorite team’s head coach to be fired.
Head coaches, along with starting quarterbacks, typically take the brunt of the blame when an NFL team starts a season slowly, and there are several names who are under fire following Week 2 of the 2026 campaign.
Eight different NFL teams have begun the season 0-2, some of which will be expected to turn it around immediately and contend for a playoff spot while others already have their eyes set on 2027.
One head coach stands above the rest as the favorite to be the first one fired this season, according to the latest betting odds.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles, whose team was on the wrong end of a massive upset against the Cleveland Browns last Sunday, is the +115 favorite to be the first head coach fired.
Bowles is considered by many to have already overstayed his welcome in Tampa Bay. Since taking the helm in 2022, Bowles has a 35-35 regular season record that includes three NFC South division titles, three playoff appearances, and one postseason victory.
After missing out on the playoffs last year via a loss to the Carolina Panthers in a win-or-go-home Week 18 finale, most believed Tampa Bay would move on from the veteran head coach.

They did not, and now staring at an 0-2 record nine months later, the franchise faces a pivotal decision in the coming weeks if things continue to unravel.
Bowles isn’t the only one on the hot seat. Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn (+300 to be first head coach fired) and Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen (+400) are also considered strong shots to be the first ones canned after their team's own 0-2 starts.
Further down the board, Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur (+900) and Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh (+1000) are longer shots to be shown the door first.
In the past decade, seven different NFL head coaches have been fired six games or fewer into the season, the fastest being Bill O’Brien of the Houston Texans, who was let go just four games into the 2020 campaign.
Quinn, mentioned above, lasted just five games into the 2020 season when he was fired by the Atlanta Falcons.
