The start of the 2026/27 Premier League season has been filled with excitement and intrigue, with several established giants struggling to find their rhythm.

Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham have all endured difficult starts, while Manchester City remain perfect after five games.

The Premier League will now pause for the international break, with a large portion of Andoni Iraola’s Liverpool squad away on international duty.

Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Bournemouth on Sunday, secured by Alexander Isak’s goal, means the Reds will not return to Premier League action until October 11, when they host Manchester City at Anfield.

However, City have been handed an injury concern ahead of the fixture, with Antoine Semenyo withdrawing from the Ghana squad after suffering a swollen ankle, according to 3Sports.

The 26-year-old will miss Ghana’s upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Cote d’Ivoire and The Gambia, as well as their friendly against Morocco.

Semenyo has enjoyed an impressive start to life at Manchester City, scoring twice and providing an assist in Sunday’s 5-3 victory over Sunderland.

His withdrawal is another setback for head coach Carlos Queiroz, who has already lost several players from his original squad for the crucial qualifiers.

Ghana have added Mohammed Fuseini, Brandon Thomas-Asante, Benjamin Tetteh and Felix Afena-Gyan as replacements.

After the Manchester City clash, Liverpool will travel to Austria to face LASK in the Champions League before returning to Premier League action away at Brentford. The Reds will then host Villarreal at Anfield before welcoming Brighton to Merseyside a few days later.

Liverpool face a particularly demanding Premier League run, with the Reds set to face several of the division’s current top sides in their next few fixtures.

After City, Brentford and Brighton, Liverpool will host defending champions Arsenal, who will be looking to respond after suffering their first defeat of the season against Brighton at the weekend.

The schedule does not get any easier, with a trip to Crystal Palace following soon after. Despite Palace having collected just four points so far, Liverpool will be well aware of the threat posed by the Eagles, having struggled against them in recent meetings.
