The Washington Mystics continued their impressive season with a 79-69 win over the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday.
It marked Washington’s franchise-record 27th win of the season as the playoffs near.
The Mystics led 23-16 after the first quarter behind a balanced scoring attack. The Sun battled back in the second frame to make it 44-42 Mystics entering halftime.
Shakira Austin dominated the second half. She finished with 25 points and 13 rebounds on 7-for-14 from the field. She got to the free-throw line 15 times, which showcased her dominance down low.
Sonia Citron added 12 points and was a game-high +18 as Washington held on for a double-digit win.
The Mystics have one regular-season game remaining — at 7:30 p.m. Thursday against the Chicago Sky at CareFirst Arena.
Washington is locked into a top-seven seed following tonight’s win. They can finish as high as the fifth seed if they defeat Chicago and Indiana loses its final game.
