Draymond Green admits that Steve Kerr has given him a new role ahead of the 2026-27 season image
Draymond Green has enjoyed plenty of success over the years, especially in his role as a playmaker for the Golden State Warriors. He has four championships under his belt because of how he helps Stephen Curry with his playmaking.
Ahead of the 2026-27 season, it seems longtime Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has communicated to Green that he is planning on taking another approach to the system. That includes a shift in a role change for Green.
Draymond Green will be playing a new role under Steve Kerr
For a long time, Green has been a player with a long leash under Kerr. The system allowed Green to make some bold decisions, which is why he has averaged 2.3 turnovers a game for his career.
Ahead of the 2026-27 season, it seems that Kerr wants Green to be more assertive in the scoring department rather than always looking for Curry. It is an interesting role shift, especially since Green is always 36.

For most of his career, Kerr has given Green the green light to keep making plays with his passing. That won't be the case for the 2026-27 season, which is a bit of a sudden shift, but it seems Green is welcoming it.
"Steve used to always tell us like, 'Steph and Draymond gonna turn the ball over more than everybody else, and I'm gonna give them room to turn the ball over.' Coach Kerr told me towards the end of last year, 'I want you shooting the 3,' and I was like, 'oh shoot', even when I was shooting the ball great, it was just something that I had never heard," Green said on his podcast.
It is certainly an interesting decision from Kerr, but he will have to find out when his players are on the court. Green seems okay with the decision because he thinks that could also help him and the team move forward.
