The international break has prevented Arsenal from swiftly responding to their recent Premier League disappointment. The Gunners endured a 3-0 loss to Brighton, dropping to second in the table.

‌

Mikel Arteta will have ample time to reflect on any errors he may have committed on the south coast as Arsenal are not back in competitive action until October 10. The manager can also utilise this interval to concentrate on matters beyond the pitch, with the Spanish tactician reportedly finalising a fresh contract.

‌

Arteta has been at the helm of Arsenal since 2019 and is seeking to build upon last season's title win. The Gunners boss will be hoping the players departing on international duty can avoid injury before domestic football returns.

‌

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice has pulled out of the England squad and will be missing from Thomas Tuchel's side at the beginning of their Nations League fixtures. While Rice's withdrawal is reportedly linked to managing his workload, Arsenal prospect Marli Salmon has sustained an injury ahead of international duty.

Mikel Arteta 'agrees new deal'

Arteta has reportedly earned a salary increase following his role in ending Arsenal's 22-year wait for the Premier League crown. The 44-year-old will be keen to maintain his recent success, having also guided the club to the Champions League final last term.

BBC Sport reports that Arteta has agreed to an improved contract with the Gunners, which will see him earn beyond his existing £10million yearly salary and £5m in bonuses. The duration of his new deal remains undisclosed, though it is set to take him into his 10th year at the helm, meaning the agreement will continue until at least 2029.

The Spaniard has entered the final year of his current deal. However, Arteta was swift to dispel any concerns regarding his future last week.

He said: "They [the fans] don't have to worry about any of that because I want to be here. I'm extremely happy and I feel very grateful to work with the people I work with."

Arsenal star withdraws from international duty

Arsenal prospect Marli Salmon has pulled out of international duty due to an unspecified injury. The 17-year-old defender was selected in the England U18 squad for their fixtures against Colombia, Egypt and South Korea as part of the UEFA Friendship Cup in Switzerland.

The England squad lists confirm that Salmon has withdrawn through injury, with Chelsea's Gabriel Sambou taking his place for Will Antwi's side. Salmon is yet to feature for England U18s but participated in last year's U17 World Cup.

The youngster was named in Arsenal's starting XI against Ipswich Town in the Carabao Cup earlier this month and featured in the Champions League matchday squad against Napoli, while also playing for the club's U21 side on three occasions this campaign. The teenager has accumulated five senior appearances under Arteta since making his debut in December 2025.
