Tim Cahill has defended The Friedkin Group’s ownership of Everton, telling supporters to “be careful what you wish for” amid questions over the owners’ communication with fans.
The former Blues midfielder pointed to the Hill Dickinson, the running of the club and Everton’s start to the season during an interview with BBC Radio Merseyside.
Cahill backs Friedkin Group at Everton
Cahill said: “Be careful what you wish for. What do you want, a phone call from them to tell you everything is OK? Or do you want a beautiful stadium and a great running business? The football is going well, and there is a representative from TFG at every game.”
Cahill also referred to the calls for investment during Bill Kenwright’s time at Everton and the difficult years which followed under Farhad Moshiri.
TFG completed its takeover in December 2024, and Everton’s latest accounts showed record revenue of £196.7m, with the pre-tax loss reduced to £8.6m. That has not removed all of the questions surrounding the ownership. TFG’s control of both Everton and Roma has brought UEFA’s multi-club ownership rules into focus, while some supporters have wanted more communication from the club’s owners.
There was also, of course, the disastrous Deadline Day.
But Cahill sees it differently. For him, the new stadium, the way the business is generally being run and what is happening on the pitch are more important than regular messages from TFG.
It is a fairly robust defence from a player who remains hugely popular with Evertonians.
