Arsenal Star Sits Out Training With National Team Raising More Concerns About His Fitness

Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber did not take part in an open training session with the Netherlands on Tuesday morning.

Timber was pictured sitting on the grass away from his teammates, with the 25-year-old currently on his own specialised training programme.

The Arsenal star is still feeling the effects of a long-term injury

Timber has played twice this season. He replaced Ben White in the second half of the 2-0 win over Sunderland, and he started the 3-0 defeat to Brighton last weekend.

However, the groin problem which forced him to miss the World Cup appears to still be a concern for Arsenal’s medical team, to the extent that they remain in consultation with their Netherlands counterparts about ways to manage his fitness.

While Timber has linked up with his national team, other members of Arsenal’s squad have had to withdraw due to fitness issues.

Ben White also injured his groin against Sunderland, and England boss Thomas Tuchel confirmed that the 28-year-old would not be ready to play in their UEFA Nations League fixtures over the next couple of weeks.

Despite being on the bench at the Amex on Saturday, Piero Hincapie has pulled out of international duty. A groin strain forced him to miss the 4-2 win over Ipswich Town in the Carabao Cup last week, and he is still not 100%, so the decision was made by Ecuador not to select him for the friendlies against South Korea and Japan.
