You’ve heard of the sophomore slump and Week 2 was just that for the Bears offense. We all watched the slog-fest and with it came very little stat accumulation:
Let’s talk about the elephant in the room - Caleb Williams hurt his hamstring. He hasn’t been ruled out of Monday’s game (sure, Jan) but most people believe he’ll be out for Week 3 and possibly Week 4 with an eye toward the Green Bay game as the return date. I’ll be honest with you, I thought about bailing on the stat tracker and it still might need to be done depending on how long Caleb mends on the sidelines.
I really wanted to count down with all of you the 4k passer and I thought with the hot start this squad had a real chance at the Broncos 606 point mark. Maybe it comes back into play with a hot stretch but a rough Week 2 and Caleb’s injury has me plenty concerned about this planned series for the year.
I’ll pivot until Caleb returns and we’ll see if there’s a chance he can get back on track. Meanwhile, I’ll look to see if there are any other career statistics worth tracking but since this team is so young on the offensive side of the ball, it might be tough to find. D’Andre Swift currently sits in 20th place in franchise history for rushing yards. A big year could get him into the top 10 - is that interesting enough to track? Rome is a year or two away from talking about all-time tracking. Add an extra year for Burden and Loveland.
Let’s all just hope this Bears squad can survive Caleb’s absence.
