Arsenal made a strong effort to sign Julian Alvarez in the last transfer window and remained interested until the final stages, hoping the attacker would agree to join them. However, Alvarez was not interested in making the move, despite the Gunners’ efforts to bring him back to England.
The attacker remains one of the players Arsenal are keen to sign, while he continues to play for Atletico Madrid as he looks to establish himself among the leading players in the game. His situation at the Spanish club could, however, lead to another opportunity for the Gunners.
Alvarez wanted to leave Atletico Madrid during the last transfer window, which encouraged Arsenal to show interest in his signature. His potential departure was complicated, though, because he only wanted to move to Barcelona, leaving Arsenal facing competition for his services.
Alvarez’s future remains uncertain
Atletico had no intention of selling Alvarez to the Catalan club because of the circumstances surrounding Barcelona’s approach. The Spanish side believed Barcelona had tapped him up behind their back, making a move between the two clubs particularly difficult.
Arsenal were therefore hoping Alvarez would consider a return to England, but that never happened. Instead, he remained with Atletico Madrid, although his current situation has reportedly become less straightforward as he struggles for form and regular minutes.
Standard Sport says there is a chance Alvarez could be allowed to leave in January, which could reopen the door for Arsenal to pursue the attacker. The report suggests that the Gunners could once again consider adding him to their squad during the next transfer window.

Arsenal could revisit their interest
Even if Atletico are prepared to allow Alvarez to leave, Arsenal would still need to convince the player to agree to the move. His preference for Barcelona previously prevented a switch to the Gunners, meaning his own decision will remain an important part of any potential transfer.
For Arsenal, the situation could provide another opportunity to pursue a player they have already shown significant interest in. However, a deal would depend on Alvarez being willing to join them, as well as Atletico being prepared to sanction his departure.
