Jack Grealish didn’t score or make a goal in Everton‘s 1-0 win over Ipswich Town, but one piece of skill was good enough to be enjoyed all over again.
With the ball dropping behind him, Grealish somehow flicked it over his own head towards Thierno Barry. The striker chested it first time to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Everton were on their way again.
Grealish adds some mischief to Moyes’ Everton
The clip was picked up again this week by Everton supporter Vinny Grappa on X, and it’s not the sort of football traditionally associated with a Moyes side.
That’s not a criticism. Moyes has spent a long career producing teams that are organised, competitive and prepared to work. His latest Everton side has plenty of those qualities too.
It also has Grealish.
ESPN has chosen this as their Play Of The Month and titled it “Return Of The Scorpion King”. It’s a clip from the EPL game on Saturday between Everton and Ipswich Town showing Everton’s Jack Grealish playing an audacious pass. VG. pic.twitter.com/EwISDxzn1I

He’s always played with a bit of swagger, and that hasn’t disappeared since his move to Merseyside. He’ll hold onto the ball, draw players towards him and try passes that aren’t necessarily the obvious ones.
Against Ipswich, apparently, that included passing the ball backwards over his own head.
Barry deserves a mention as well. He didn’t stop to admire what Grealish had just done, instead cushioning the ball neatly into Dewsbury-Hall’s path and keeping the move going.
It’s only a few seconds from a game Everton won thanks to Barry’s early goal, but it’s another little example of what Grealish has brought to Moyes’ team.
Everton still work hard. They’re still difficult to play against, and Moyes isn’t suddenly going to fill his side with flicks and tricks. A few more like this wouldn’t hurt, though.
