‘Something special’ - Brighton winger is getting experts excited after Liverpool transfer blow

It's been a tough period for Yankuba Minteh of late.

The Brighton winger injured his knee during pre-season against Roma and has missed the start of the 2026-27 campaign.

The flying Gambian will hope to return after the international break and prove why Liverpool tried to sign him for £60m in the previous transfer window.

Minteh, 22, was reportedly keen on the move to Anfield but the two clubs failed to reach an agreement on price.

Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler insists Minteh is fully committed to Brighton and hopes to have his star attacker back as soon as possible.

Third place Brighton have coped pretty well without him and are the division's leading scorers with 16 goals.

But Albion start their Uefa Conference League stage after the international break and Hurzeler needs his best players fit and firing amid the busy fixtures schedule.

Minteh and Estevao

Despite his lack of recent playing time former England, Chelsea and Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips believes the Brighton man is among the best young wingers in the Premier League and across Europe.

"I do like Yankuba Minteh as well," said Wright-Phillips to Betway.

"But he just needs to work on his end product a little bit more. I do enjoy watching him."

Wright-Phillips also picked young Brazilian winger Estevao. The 19-year-old is yet to start a Premier League match this season for Xabi Alonso's Chelsea but is seen as a special talent for the future.

"There’s quite a few out there," added Wright-Phillips.

"But I’d say Estevao is the one for me that I’m hoping gets a lot more game time because I think he will just grow."
