NFL insider Ari Meirov broke the devastating news regarding the offensive line, reporting: “#Packers RT Zach Bako-Bewele (formerly Zach Tom) suffered a torn patellar tendon on Sunday and will miss the rest of the 2026 NFL season, he told reporters.” The analyst further added, “A gut-punch loss for Green Bay’s offensive line.”
The 2022 fourth-round pick from Wake Forest has started 53 games, making his sudden absence a massive roster crisis for the franchise.
Green Bay already has Aaron Banks and Elgton Jenkins dealing with injuries. Anthony Belton is expected to take over at right tackle, but LaFleur also has to monitor Belton’s elbow. The Packers now have fewer reliable options around Jordan Love at a time when their protection numbers are poor.
ESPN Analytics ranks Green Bay near the bottom of the league in pass-block win rate. Love is facing pressure in an average of 2.36 seconds after the snap, leaving little time for deeper routes to develop. The Packers finished last season 9-7-1 and still carried hopes of chasing another Lombardi Trophy, but the line has become the first major barrier to that goal.

The injury has also reopened the memory of Bako-Bewele’s partial patellar tendon tear against Denver last December. He now faces surgery and a nine-month recovery, so his short-term focus is rehabilitation instead of a quick return.
Fox Sports reported his blunt reaction to the setback: “I mean, I don’t think the turf helped. Yeah, I don’t know. Just something that happened, so I’ve just got to move forward.”
Green Bay must decide whether Belton can handle the job or whether the front office needs outside help. The Packers have already been linked to a possible trade for offensive support. Love’s next test comes Thursday against the Atlanta Falcons at Lambeau Field, where every early pressure will measure the cost of losing Bako-Bewele.
